GOP Chairman Doesn’t Understand Texas’ Extreme Abortion Law But Defends It Anyway

Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee, defended the extreme Texas abortion law on “Meet The Press” Sunday. The only problem was, he didn’t understand the law he was defending.

Facepalm.

“The issue for us is only one thing, and that’s whether you ought to use taxpayer money to fund abortion.” [Source]

The law in Texas has absolutely nothing to do with taxpayer dollars funding abortions. The law requires doctors at clinics that offer abortions to have admitting privileges at local hospitals, the abortions have to take place in ambulatory surgical centers, it outlaws abortions after twenty weeks and limits how doctors prescribe medication abortions.

It would probably be a good idea to actually know the law you’re defending. Even just a little.

A spokesperson for the head jackass of the GOP said he was talking in general terms. Riiiigghhttt.

Even if he was speaking in general terms, he’s still lying. The entire purpose of anti-abortion laws are to limit a woman’s access to the procedure. The right believes that women should be forced to carry pregnancies to term as punishment for their slutty behavior. With that in mind, Preibus’ next comment was absolutely hilarious:

“The fact of the matter is that we believe that any woman that’s faced with an unplanned pregnancy deserves compassion, respect, counseling, whatever it is that we can offer.”

Yeah, the Republican party sure has a funny way of showing compassion.
