Once again, the right is in full fledged poutage mode over “their” America slipping from their grasp.
Behold! The doom of ‘Murika! This year’s Miss America, Nina Davuluri from New York:
Holy fucksticks! She’s an injun! Tain’t no way no injun can be no Mizz ‘Murika!
OK, that’s a slight exaggeration of the reaction.
Oh wait! No. It’s not.
But Justin! You filthy liberal scum! That’s just one person! He doesn’t represent the right at all!
Todd Starnes is a Fox News Hate Radio personality. Yeah, I’m sure it’s just an isolated incident. Just like it always is.
The dumbfuckery ranged from calling Davuluri a terrorist to an Arab to a Muslim. Because when you’re white, angry and stupid, anyone with brown skin from another country is probably a Muslim terrorist.
My favorite part of all of this is how Miss Kansas represents the “real” America. Why? Because the right clings to this idea that small towns in the middle of corn fields are the majority of America. As usual, reality says otherwise.
Here’s some interesting facts, none of which will be welcome by Todd “Captain America” Starnes:
- Population of the United States – 313.9 million
- Population of Kansas – 2.866 million (0.91%)
- Population of New York – 19.57 million (6.23%)
- Population of NYC – 8.245 million (2.62%)
Kansas represents less than 1% of the population of the entire country. New York City ALONE is almost three times as populous.
But that’s just New York and everyone knows that REAL Americans don’t live in cities! Ah. Some more bad news for Starnes:
Rural population as percentage of total population in 2010 – 19.3%
Urban population as percentage of total population in 2010 – 80.7%
The US census defines the different areas as:
- Urbanized Areas (UAs) of 50,000 or more people;
- Urban Clusters (UCs) of at least 2,500 and less than 50,000 people.
- “Rural” encompasses all population, housing, and territory not included within an urban area.
Even if you try to skew the numbers and count all population centers under 50,000 as “rural,” you’re still looking at a 68.3% to 31.7% difference. In other words, two to one, Americans live in cities. And that’s only if you’re being insanely loose with the definition of rural. In reality, Americans live in cities 4-1.
Therefore, Miss Kansas does NOT represent “real” American values. The overwhelming majority of us do not hunt or own a gun. Less than half of one percent of the country is currently in the military and even less are reserve personnel. If you count up all the veterans still alive, then number is significantly less than 50% of all American citizens. This is not to diminish their service but let’s not pretend they represent a majority of the country.
And let’s be honest here, if Ms. Davuluri had been the one with tattoos, then tattoos would have been the sluttiest thing ever as far as the right is concerned.
I’ve written about this “real America” nonsense before but it bears repeating:
But despite urban life being the statistical norm, there’s a distinct problem with the line of thought that one is more authentic than the other: it is all utter nonsense. There is no such thing as an American that’s intrinsically better than any other. If there was, this wouldn’t be the United States as we understand it. The whole theory behind the existence of this country is its egalitarianism.
If the idea of an Indian woman born and raised in America winning the Miss America pageant fills you with rage and disgust, you’re a racist piece of shit and you don’t understand the point of America at all.
