Via Samuel-Warde.com:

Earlier this month Dan Savage set of a world class shit-storm when he declared that “every dead gay kid is a victory for the Family Research Council”.

Today, Matt Barber and Shawn Akers discussed Savage’s comments on the right-wing Liberty Counsel’sFaith and Freedom radio program.  In the course of the program Barber suggested that Savage was intentionally “sending a signal to the next Floyd Corkins [Chinatown shooting subject]  to go in and try again” and Akers declared that Savage’s remarks were just like “Hitler’s programmatic desensitization of the German people toward the Jewish population”

So here’s the difference that the religious right ignores: When we tell these so-called “men of God” to keep their bile to themselves, we are not actively oppressing them. They are still perfectly free to hate and fear homosexuals. No one cares what you do or say in private. On the other hand, when these same fanatics loudly denounce homosexuals as evil and abominations, they are actively attacking people who want nothing to do with them. The raging fanatics give license to others to bully and harass kids who then go on to commit suicide. They create an atmosphere of hate and then have the gall to say it’s not their fault.

Dan Savage is 100% correct: The Family Research Council exists for the sole purpose of spreading disgusting lies about homosexuality in order to make others fear and hate homosexuals. Every dead gay teen is a notch on their belt and blood on their hands. If one or both of my kids turned out to be gay, I would happily slap the shit out of some kid that bullied them and curb stomp their father for teaching it/allowing that kind of hate near my kid. Keep your poisonous religion to yourself and nobody gets hurt.
