This week’s liberal madness in which we discuss Mitt Romney’s worst week ever, the Democratic Party talking about taking back the House from the Tea Party, how close the race to keep the Senate is, the right entering full denial mode and making up its own polls to make it look like Romney is “winning” and the impending end of the GOP and replacement by the “Libertarian Party.”

You are correct that the gaffes about the height of trees, the shapes of clouds, and the fact that windows don’t open on planes, are minor issues…that he is totally disconnected….
The disdain in his voice is what got me as well. Please read my twin brother’s story, attached, and on my website, and then tell me how Paul could have taken responsibility for his life. Forget about the fact that a lot of the 47%, people who do not pay federal income taxes are actually Romney supporters, forget about the fact that the 47% include senior citizens who paid into their “dependence” on government, or the vets…or the students who will pay taxes in the future…my brother represents people, through no fault of their own are disabled and completely dependent on the government for food, shelter, clothing and health care.
Paul was diagnosed with schizophrenia when we were only 16, we were juniors in high school. He was committed to the state hospital system at 17 and wasn’t released until he was 38. He then spent the next 3 years going from inadequately run group home to the next horrendously run “assisted” living facility, all the while cycling in and out of the ER because his mental condition deteriorated with each step they pushed him towards complete independence, without the supports he needed. He had incidents with the police, became re-institutionalized, and wound up in a grimy 200+ bed adult home which had the trappings of a nursing home but none of the cheeriness and staff that seemed more like bouncers to break up fights. Paul’s physical health deteriorated right along with his mind, until he was admitted to a nursing home that accepted Medicaid patients. He was diagnosed with lung cancer a few months later. The staff was loving and kind and he regained much of his lucidity during that last year. It was a blessing and a curse for us, his family.
Romney would have people think that Paul was living it up on the government dime, but his was a roller coaster ride to hell and back, and he was actually one of the lucky ones because Paul was never homeless or incarcerated.
When we make policies that benefit the least among us, we will benefit everyone. ObamaCare has finally started to address an archaic Medicaid law that address federal dollars for Medicaid eligible adults to be treated in psychiatric hospitals and drug treatment residential facilities. The result Of 40 years of starving the states of Medicaid funds has been the closings of state hospitals, but no increase in community supports. ObamaCare has a partial repeal of this Medicaid provision, called the Medicaid Institutes for Mental Diseases (IMD) Exclusion. By providing assistance to those who need the most acute care, who are poor, we will help prevent them from cycling in and out of the ER, which helps everyone in the long run. It will save money and save lives.
