Obviously, Obama is an anti-Semite just like I’ve been recently been accused because neither of us want to be a part of Israel’s war-mongering.
Via The Daily Banter:
President Barack Obama’s explicit warning that he will not accept a unilateral Israeli attack against Iran may force Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to step back from his ostensible threat of war.
Netanyahu had hoped that the Obama administration could be put under domestic political pressure during the election campaign to shift its policy on Iran to the much more confrontational stance that Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak have been demanding.
But that political pressure has not materialized, and Obama has gone further than ever before in warning Netanyahu not to expect U.S. backing in any war with Iran. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey told reporters in Great Britain on Aug. 30 that an Israeli strike would be ineffective, and then said, “I don’t want to be complicit if they (the Israelis) choose to do it.”
It was the first time that a senior U.S. official had made such an explicit public statement indicating the administration’s unwillingness to be a party to a war provoked by a unilateral Israeli attack.
If this means that, by insisting that Israel not be allowed to dictate our foreign policy and drag us into a war we can’t afford, don’t need and certainly don’t want, Obama suddenly hates Jews, than so do I and so do most of the Jews living IN Israel. They don’t want this war being pushed by the Israeli version of American neo-cons anymore than we do.
Set your Way-back Machine to August 1914 … the scene: central Europe … Austria wanted to attack Serbia because they believed (rightly) that Serbia was behind the assassination of Arch Duke Ferdinand, the heir to the Austrian throne. Austria asked Kaiser Willhem if Germany would back Austria if Austria attacked Serbia. Germany said (in effect) “do what you gotta do.” The so-called “Blank Check.”
Austria did indeed declare war on Serbia. Russia, Serbia’s ally, mobilized to attack Austria. Germany, feeling threatened, demanded Russia stop mobilization and began mobilizing too. Russia, feeling threatened, declared war on Germany. Germany, knowing that France was allied with Russia and would soon declare war on Germany, declared war and invaded Belgium trying to outflank and invade France. Great Britain, honoring it’s treaty obligation with Belgium, declared war on Germany. A n n n n n d … World War One was off and running! The greatest bloodletting in European history up to that time.
Obama’s notice to Israel that the U.S. will not “automatically” back Israel in an attack on Iran was EXACTLY the right thing to do. The United States is NOT going to issue a “blank check” to anyone.
@kaptainken, I agree with you completely. I don’t think that we need to get involved with Israel in an Irani war. I am sick to death of war and it is the last thing the US needs. If the GOP warmongers want to go to war, let them send their sons and daughters and spend their money on it.
Curious thing is: even the Israeli General Staff opposes a strike against Iran. They think that it won’t do enough damage to achieve more than delay the Iranians somewhat. The Pentagon agrees with that assessment.
