Anders Breivik, The Norwegian Mass Murderer Gets 21 Years For 77 Deaths
on August 24, 2012 at 3:03 pmOK, I get that Norway doesn’t have a prison-industrial complex to feed like the United States does and they’ve placed a cap on the maximum length of a prison sentence. Further, they actually try and rehabilitate their criminals instead of deliberately increase the rate of recidivism (prisoners = money!). I get all that. Still, 21 years? That’s a little over three months per victim.
Granted, he’ll be assessed as to whether he’s still a danger to the public in 21 years and his sentence can be extended indefinitely but he’s very intelligent. That leaves open the possibility that he’ll bamboozle the parole board (or whatever the Norwegian equivalent is), get out and do it again.
The worst part about all this is that while Breivik is a monster in Norway, he’s a hero to the militia nuts here in the US. He went and struck a blow against the evil liberals that were allowing Sharia law to take over blablabla. After Obama wins in November, the eliminationist rhetoric will ramp up to fever pitch. It really is just a matter of time until we have a Breivik of our very own. Joy…

The parole board are never going to release him. Just like there was never any doubt he was going to be sentenced, there is no parole board even in Norway who would look past the crime he comitted and go, “I think he might have learned his lesson by now.” His sentence will be extended indefinitely.
