I have SUCH a man crush on Paul Krugman! He’s not afraid of pissing anyone off, including the Beltway press that has a tendency to live inside a bubble of smug self satisfaction with how “neutral” they are. The reality is that they’ve been snookered by the right’s insistence that they’re “in the tank for liberals” any time they call the right on their obvious bullshit. The result? Harry Reid makes an incendiary charge against Mitt Romney much the same way the GOP does every other day and instead of the blasé reaction reserved for right wing fire breathers, Reid is an object of shock and horror. Neutral, indeed.

On the flip side, the sociopaths on the right are treated, well, I’ll let Krugman tell you:

Mitt Romney’s choice of Paul Ryan as his running mate led to a wave of pundit accolades. Now, declared writer after writer, we’re going to have a real debate about the nation’s fiscal future. This was predictable: never mind the Tea Party, Mr. Ryan’s true constituency is the commentariat, which years ago decided that he was the Honest, Serious Conservative, whose proposals deserve respect even if you don’t like him.

But he isn’t and they don’t. Ryanomics is and always has been a con game, although to be fair, it has become even more of a con since Mr. Ryan joined the ticket.

Ryan’s budget is smoke, mirrors, fairy dust and flat out lies. But he’s not a raging lunatic like Michele Bachmann so we’re supposed to take him “seriously.” I don’t think so.
