Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee, took to the Sunday talk shows to whine bitch and moan complain about Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s accusation that Mitt Romney didn’t pay taxes for ten years.
Via Fox News:
“I’m not going to respond to a dirty liar who hasn’t filed a single page of tax returns himself,” Priebus said on ABC’s “This Week” about Reid’s claim. “He complains about people with money, but lives in the Ritz Carlton here down the street.”
Classic right wing response! First, members of Congress do not have a tradition of releasing their tax returns. There is a conversation there to be had about that but to complain that Reid, like almost every member of Congress, including the GOP, keeps his tax returns private is disingenuous at best. I wonder if Mr. Priebus’ returns are public?
Second, pointing out that Reid is wealthy is pure misdirection. “Don’t pay attention to how rich my guy is! Look at this guy over here! He’s got money! He must be a hypocrite.” Which might be true if Reid wasn’t pushing to raise his own taxes while Romney seeks to give himself a nice fat tax cut.
But you know what? This can all be cleared up in a heartbeat! All Romney has to do is release his tax returns! He could clear his name and embarrass the entire Democratic Party in one fell swoop! But he still refuses.
What’s Mitt hiding and isn’t funny how questioning Romney’s past makes you a “dirty rat” but trying to pass laws to question President Obama’s past makes you a “patriot?”
