Yet another golden opportunity for the Obama campaign: Mittens just won’t release his tax returns, begging the obvious and perfectly legitimate question, “What is he hiding?” Just imagine how much shadiness is in there: more off-shore accounts, tax dodges in all shapes and sizes, serious conflicts of interests! The mind boggles at the the myriad possibilities! And in the vacuum left by his refusal, the Obama campaign would be insane not to fill it in with exactly that kind of speculation! Unfair you say? Unethical you cry? Not at all! All Romney has to do is release the records and prove us all wrong. Unfair speculation would be if there were no way to disprove it like, for instance, claiming that Obama is a “secret Muslim.” No one on the right seemed to have a problem with that.
To make it even more delicious, not only did Romney’s father release 12 years of his own returns, but Romney’s claim that John Kerry only released two has been thoroughly debunked. If I were the Obama campaign I would make a special website of Obama’s, Gore’s, Kerry’s and Clinton’s publicly released tax returns with a giant banner that reads: “WHAT IS MITT HIDING?”
What a sight to behold that would be…
