Sunday Morning Blasphemy – An Atheist For President?!
on June 24, 2012 at 10:16 amWe’re coming to take your Bibles away! Oh noes!!
Addictinginfo reports:
For the first time since the Gallup organization began asking the question, a majority of Americans—54 percent—would vote for an atheist. As a matter of fact, a majority would vote for any of the named categories for President—Black (96%), woman (95%), Catholic (94%), Hispanic (92%), Jewish (91%), Mormon (80%), gay/lesbian (68%), Muslim (58%), atheist (54%). But this is the first time that atheists have achieved this rank, in contrast to all the other groups.
I can only imagine the right wing is quivering in fear about this. As we all know, atheists (like me) are the lowest of the low. We’re a blight on humanity, eat babies, murder the elderly blablabla. The real problem, though, is that atheists are notoriously difficult to sway using right wing social wedge issues and have an annoying tendency to point out, in great detail, that the religious right is neither “religious” nor “right.” This is an often overlooked statistic that shows the right wing’s religious hysteria is rapidly losing its grip on the country.
Boo.
Hoo.

well, you can’t get church and state any more separate than people who don’t even believe in church!
I’m glad to see true diversity taking hold, at least in a majority. I think the younger generation will take this to a new high, and of course us old hippies have been on this train for awhile.
Not an athiest myself, as I am a christian, but sometimes, I fear that electing christians is bad for this country, because there is always a chance that they are going to forget that the first sentences of the very first amendment seperates goverment from religion.
