Pro-’Life’ Republican Screams In Joy At (False) News Of Millions Losing Healthcare (VIDEO)

Crossposted from Addictinginfo.org

At the end of the day, no matter what Fox News tries to label the Affordable Care Act as, the ACA ensures over thirty million people will have health insurance that would not have had it otherwise. It ensures parents can keep their children covered until they can get their own insurance. It prevents insurance companies from canceling coverage just as people get sick in order to save some money and it forces those same companies to accept anyone, regardless of any pre-existing conditions. Overall, it’s expected to save almost 45,000 lives a year.

For some reason, the prospect of overturning it sent Republicans into spasms of joy. Here’s one now:

“Thank God! They struck down the individual mandate! They took it away!”

That’s Representative Jean Schmidt (R-OH), she’s a Birther and an abortion opponent. She once called fellow representative John Murtha Jr. a coward for wanting to end the pointless war in Iraq. Murtha was a 38 year Marine Corps veteran with a Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. Schmidt worked in her daddy’s bank and never served a day in her life.

That the GOP wants Obamacare gone is obvious. What is less obvious is why they want it gone. No, it’s not because it will “destroy America.” Conservatives, like Schmidt, said that about Social Security, Medicare, 40 hour work weeks, labor unions, blacks and women getting the right to vote and pretty much every liberal advancement. All of these things have strengthened the country. No, what Schmidt and her fellow Republicans hate is that Obamacare was passed by Obama. That’s it. They’ve gone on the record as supporting pretty much every measure in the law but spent years and millions of dollars demonizing the whole package. Why? To deny a Democratic president a victory. The GOP has literally declared the individual mandate, an idea they invented, as satanic Socialism simply because Obama embraced it.

Watching an elected official scream in esctasy over what she thought was millions of people, millions of children, losing any hope for health care because is disturbing. Knowing that she only did so because of a crass political decision to squeeze the country until it begs for mercy and puts the GOP back in power is sickening. Knowing that she claims to be pro-”life” while gleefully celebrating 45,000 people a year being condemned to die from lack of health care is just GOP politics as usual.

Even though she lost her primary bid for 2012 and will be out of a job by next year, this video should be played nonstop until November as an example of just how little the GOP cares about the people of this country. “Party Before Country, it’s the Republican way!”

Shocking! Conservatives Immediately Call For Violence In The Wake Of Obamacare Being Upheld

What? You didn’t know that was coming? Silly rabbit! A piece of liberal(ish) legislation was kept intact in accordance with the Constitution; how else would you expect the super duper ultra patriotic I-love-Murika crowd to react except to threaten armed revolution? That’s what real patriots do, don’tcha know?

Here’s an email sent out by former Michigan GOP Spokesperson Matt Davis via Addictinginfo:

Is Armed Rebellion Now Justified?

Implicit in Benjamin Franklin’s fabled response at the conclusion of the Constitutional Convention was a dire warning: That the Republic would one day devolve into tyranny unless we the people prevented it.

In 2008, we the people elected Barack Obama as president, and the 100-year progressive trek to tyranny begun in 1912 with Woodrow Wilson’s election was complete. It cannot be said too many times — for the purposes of emphasis and clarity — that the Constitution was possible ONLY AFTER the American Revolution; and that the war itself would not have been possible without the collective agreement, as so eloquently articulated in the Declaration of Independence, that the course of human events will sometimes justify one group of people to sever themselves from their oppressors.

In other words, America itself was possible only after its people summoned the will to risk their lives and their futures — as well as those of their children — for a freedom they did not enjoy but knew was their gift from God. Along with their desire to be free came their willingness to engaged in armed rebellion for their freedom.

If government can mandate that I pay for something I don’t want, then what is beyond its power? If the Supreme Court’s decision Thursday paves the way for unprecedented intrusion into personal decisions, then has the Republic all but ceased to exist? If so, then is armed rebellion today justified?

God willing, this oppression will be lifted and America free again before the first shot is fired.

Can’t you just FEEL the patriotism? He said freedom, God and America so he MUST be a patriot! In the days to come, expect to here a lot more of this kind of violent rhetoric and when Obama wins re-election? Oh boy! The right is going to lose what little sanity they have left. We’re absolutely on track for another Oklahoma City.

Today In Geekdom: Awesome Gotye ‘Somebody I Used To Know’ Star Wars Parody

This video sums up everything wrong with Star Wars. Two words: George Lucas.

If you haven’t seen the original Gotye video, it’s down below. Watch it first and it makes this one even funnier.

Is it me or does this song remind you of the 80s?

American Conservatives Threaten To Move To Canada To Escape ‘Socialized Medicine’

Seriously? Seriously?! Addicitnginfo reports:

In what can only be described as a phenomenon of the Ridley Scott  and Damon Lindelof Sci-fi variety, hordes of dyspeptic right-wingers (I’m guessing) took to Twitter to express their sheer outrage and  threatened to  ’move to Canada’ to escape socialized medicine. I sorely wish that was a type-o but it is much too much true. Perhaps these individuals will encourage citizens of Bahrain to move to Syria to escape despotism or maybe pour gasoline on a fire to put it out. Something even more ironic would be if these people actually learned about other countries and systems of government.

I’m moving to Canada, the United States is entirely too socialist,” tweets @WallyWeldon

The supreme court upheld Obama Care. That’s it. I’m moving to Canada!,”tweets @lucasdargis.

#SCOTUS holds up free healthcare for everyone?! Screw this commie country, I’m moving to #Canada!, ” tweets @Vansummers

I honestly didn’t think conservatives could get any stupider than “Keep your government hands off my Medicare!” But this? This is a whole new level of dumb. It is possible that these are jokes. I’m not holding my breath, though.

HOLY CRAP! Scalia Must Be Fuming!

The Supreme Court broke 5-4 in favor of the ACA in toto! The mandate was upheld as a tax. Chief Justice Roberts went left and Obama reaps a massive win. Prepare for the spin from Fox and a whole lot of bile about how this is the end of America. Giving corporations unlimited influence over our elections is “democracy” but non-socialized healthcare is a “disaster.”

You know who’s breathing a huge sigh of relief? Insurance companies. Overturning the mandate would have cost them billions.

By the way, the Commerce Clause is still intact and the GOP will be clutching its pearls. This was the closest they’ve gotten to destroying the government’s power to do big things. Tough luck!

Do You Schadenfreude? I Do!

For years, YEARS!, I’ve had Mac users smugly state that “Macs don’t get viruses!” and I had to keep pointing out that was only because no one cared enough to write one. The second, the very second, there were enough Macs online to make it worth the effort to infect them it would be open season. ”Hohoho! You silly PCs users! Bla bla bla”

Gee whiz! I guess I was right.

Yahoo reports:

It’s been one of the key selling points of Macs for years: Computers made by Apple simply don’t get viruses, right? Well, unfortunately, recent computer virus outbreaks (yes, that’s outbreaks with an “S”) have proven Macs to be vulnerable, and as a result, Apple is quietly scrubbing its site of its anti-viral claims.

Formerly, the Apple website featured a section entitled “It doesn’t get PC viruses,” that included the line, “A Mac isn’t susceptible to the thousands of viruses plaguing Windows-based computers.” Now, however, the site section has been changed to simply read “It’s built to be safe,” and touts the built-in defenses the Mac has against viruses

Welcome to the world of scumbag hackers and international data theft. Get yourself a good anti-virus program and back up your sensitive information. It only gets worse from here.

Today In Geekdom: Science Flies You To Mars, Right Wing Religion Flies You Into Buildings

And let’s be honest, whatever you think about religion, there’s never going to be a religious liberal that’s gong to murder thousands in the name of God. The fanatics of the religious right, on the other hand, want you to be afraid of everything. Even science. But, sorry, the Bible won’t get us to Mars. It won’t even get us back to the Moon. Only science can do that.

Science. It works, bitches.

The Newsroom Makes Me Sad

It’s something we’ve all known for some time now. Liberals don’t like to say it, conservatives refuse to believe it and call anyone that does a “traitor” but we all know it’s true: America is not the “Greatest Country In The World” anymore. Just the most powerful with delusions of grandeur.

In defense of liberals, though, I’ll just leave it with a quote:

“A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes”

- Mark Twain

If this doesn’t snap your eyes open, someone glued them shut.

Renaming The Fan Page (POLL)

Once upon a time, I started writing liberal smack talk for fun. Then I got a whole bunch of fans so I started a fan page. The title, Filthy Liberal Scum, confused some (a lot of) people so I started a NEW page: Proud To Be A Filthy Liberal Scum. This is still causing confusion and too many people have steered clear, thinking that I am mocking liberals (I do, but just the annoying ones). So, I’m dropping the snarky title (but NEVER the snarky attitude) and going for a somewhat less contentious name. And YOU, dear reader, get to help me pick it out! Aren’t you the lucky one? I’ll run this a few times to get as much input as possible and if you have an idea (a clean one) of your own, add it to the comment section. If other people like it, I’ll add it to the next version of this poll and let social Darwinism take its course.

What do you think the new page name should be?
